Overview

Troy Fautanu, the standout guard from the University of Washington, enters the 2024 NFL Draft with a skill set that combines agility, physicality, proficient hand usage, and strong run-blocking capabilities. While Fautanu possesses several strengths that make him a compelling prospect, there are areas such as overall strength and balance that require attention and development as he transitions to the professional level.

Strengths

Agility

Fautanu’s agility is a standout feature of his game. His quick and nimble footwork allows him to move laterally effectively, making him an asset in both pass-protection and run-blocking situations.

Physicality

Known for his physical style of play, Fautanu is not shy about engaging defenders with force. His aggressive approach to blocking contributes to creating running lanes and provides a strong anchor in pass protection.

Hands

Fautanu demonstrates excellent hand technique, utilizing a strong punch to control defenders at the point of attack. His hand placement and timing contribute to his effectiveness in both run and pass-blocking scenarios.

Run Blocking

A strength of Fautanu’s game is his proficiency in run blocking. He excels at driving defenders off the line of scrimmage, creating lanes for running backs to exploit. His physicality and leverage make him a valuable asset in power-running schemes.

Weaknesses

Overall Strength

While Fautanu is physically imposing, there is room for improvement in his overall strength. Developing more functional strength will enhance his ability to anchor against powerful interior defenders and maintain control in pass protection.

Balance

Fautanu occasionally struggles with balance, especially in situations where he needs to redirect his weight quickly. Improving balance will be crucial for maintaining control in one-on-one situations and when pulling or blocking on the move.

Final Thoughts on Troy Fautanu Scouting Report

In conclusion, Troy Fautanu presents an intriguing combination of agility, physicality, hand technique, and run-blocking proficiency. While his skills make him a compelling prospect, addressing weaknesses in overall strength and balance will be crucial for his success at the next level. NFL teams seeking a guard with the potential to contribute immediately and a willingness to refine certain aspects of his game should closely evaluate Fautanu during the draft process.

Troy Fautanu Draft Stock

Fautanu is number 30 on Mock Draft Database. He’s expected to be picked around the same time as Jordan Morgan and Amarius Mims. I think this is a little too high for him for a couple reasons. One, he is likely going to be a guard in the NFL, and guards are drafted later than tackles. Also, I don’t think his skills merit this high a pick. I’d be more comfortable taking him in the late 2nd round to 3rd round.
