“You can become who you want to be out there and I consider myself an a-hole out there,”

Introduction

Martez “Tez” Ivey is an offensive lineman from the University of Florida. Ivey played both left tackle and left guard at Florida. He measured in at 6’5”, 315 pounds with 36 and 1/4 inch arms and 10 and 3/8 inch hands. Ivey started in the final eight games his freshman year. He then continued starting for the rest of his college career. Ivey did not participate in any drills due to a hamstring issue. He has played in mostly a zone blocking concept and feels most comfortable there.

Positives

Ivey obviously has the prototypical NFL tackle size, especially when it comes to arm length. He was also a five star recruit coming out of high school. Therefore, he has a lot of potential. Ivey is an almost four year starter who played both guard and tackle at Florida.

He showed pretty good strength during his career. Ivey told me that he feels like he improved quite a bit in his pass blocking during his senior year. He did play against SEC defensive lineman, which should help him deal with NFL level talent. Tez is also willing to play any position, including contributing on special teams. Ivey had a great response when it came to talking about his nastiness on the offensive live.

“You can become who you want to be out there and I consider myself an a-hole out there, get after people that’s what it’s all about. They will do it to you, so you might as well do it to them first. Ground and pound somebody, beat it out of them until they don’t want to play no more,” said Ivey.

Negatives

Tez needs to work on his footwork, he’s kind of slow. Despite his prototype tackle size, his lack of footwork means he’s going to fit best at guard. This position doesn’t make best use of his physical gifts. He hasn’t developed into the player that many expected when he was a highly touted recruit coming into Florida. He took a big step forward in his senior year in terms of pass blocking, but he still has a long way to go. Ivey can be beat either inside or outside.

Ivey hasn’t become what he was supposed to be. Jawaan Taylor clearly overtook him on the offensive line on his way to being a first round pick. Ivey will probably be a late 3rd day pick or an undrafted free agent. He’s raw, the attributes need to be developed. Hopefully he goes to a team with a strong offensive line coach so he can be developed, he’s a project.
