Washington Football Team Draft Grades

How did Washington do in the 2021 NFL Draft? Let’s give the Washington Football Team draft grades for every pick they made.

Round 1 (No.19 Overall) LB, Jamin Davis

Jamin Davis was a good pick given positional need. I love what Washington is doing on the defensive side of the ball. This defense will be dominant for years if they continue to build like this. I only question if they should have taken the OT Darrisaw instead? Davis came on during the second half of the season. He is rangy and makes play after play as well, and has a nose for the football. I wasn’t as high on him as some were, but this was a great fit for the Football Team. He will step in and play from day 1. Grade A

Round 2 (No. 51) OT, Sam Cosmi

The former Texas Longhorn automatically makes my questioning of them going linebacker in round one obsolete. The depth in this tackle class far outweighed the linebacker depth. Good job Washington. Cosmi is a freak athlete for such a large man, and is capable of hanging in that department with the leagues best edge rushers. He is a bit rough, but with refinement should become a solid starter for years to come.

Grade A

Round 3 (No.74) CB, Benjamin St-Juste

Adding depth to the secondary is never a bad thing. This Minnesota Golden Gopher can cover well. He falls into Washington’s hands right when he was slated to be drafted. Not a value not a reach, just solid! St-Juste has good size and he flips his hips well. His transitions are smooth and he plays like he wants to win. I know some sites say corner wasn’t the need, but lets be honest, you can’t have too many corner-backs in today’s pass happy NFL.

Grade B

Round 3 (No.82) WR, Dyami Brown

Washington just won my heart with this pick. How did this Tarheel fall this far? I’m assuming Rivera and company ran to the phones to make this pick. Brown is ultra talented and as explosive as they come. Brown, along with Samuel and McLaurin should be devastating to opposing secondaries. Chris Simms had him listed as his WR #3.

Grade A+

Round 4 (No.124) TE, John Bates

Not a big fan of this pick. I had a few tight ends I liked much more (Brevin Jordan, Kenny Yeboah, Matt Buschman) still available. Bates played college ball at Boise State where he recorded career stats of 579 yards and 2 touchdowns. I bet you’re scratching your head too?  It’s not like he put up great pro day numbers either, this pick was a loss.

Grade F

Round 5 (No.163) S, Darrick Forrest

I liked this pick a lot. Forrest is a pure competitor and that’s what they need at the safety position. Washington hit a home run with Kurl last year, but Collins has been on the decline, and they need people to compete. Forrest should do just that. He is an all around athlete and can play the run or over the top. If he develops he should fill Collins spot well!

Grade A

Round 6 (No.225) LS, Camaron Cheeseman

What the Hell? What happened to the NFL? We are drafting long snappers now? You really can’t find a long snapper in the UDFA pool? I refuse to give a long snapper a grade higher than an F. Grade F

Round 7 (No.240) EDGE, William Bradley-King

The seventh round is where you take a few swings for the fence. Bradley-King is that high potential home run swing. A great edge presence with length and bend. An above average athlete who should be able to spell Sweat and Young. The Baylor product for me was a great late round addition. Grade A-

Round 7 (No.246) EDGE, Shaka Toney

Toney got lost in the conversation at Penn State. Everyone has been focused on Parsons and Oweh but Toney isn’t a slouch. Another late round addition to the edge rushers for Washington. I don’t hate this mentality. He may be a bit of a tweener position wise, but I trust Rivera and the staff to get the most out of him. A few months ago you would have laughed if someone said Toney would be available this late? For that alone, it’s a good late round gamble. Grade B+

Round 7 (No.258) WR, Dax Milne

If you didn’t like this pick and you want to argue it being a good one, just Google Dax Milne BYU highlights and I’m sure you’ll change your tune. Milne has ball tracking skills and never stops playing. His grittiness is immeasurable. He is a dream for a quarterback that can extend plays. With your last pick in the 2021 NFL Draft grabbing a receiver with his upside is yet another late round victory. Grade B+
