Tyler Watson Accomplishments

Tyler Watson is a defensive back from East Stroudsburg. Watson was ALL-PSAC East second team in 2022 and ALL-PSAC first team in 2021.

Strengths

Athleticism/Versatility

Tyler Watson is a superior athlete, that’s how he got on our radar. Watson has the athleticism to play in the deep part of the field. He can also play in the box. This is because Watson is a solid tackler and has great hands that help him highpoint the ball. Being able to play both deep and in the box is extremely valuable in the NFL. The safety position is one that needs to be adaptable. A good defensive coordinator should be having fun moving a versatile safety around.

Watson also is a valuable contributor on special teams. He can be a great gunner on punts and great coverage on kickoffs.

Non-Stop Motor

Watson has a non-stop motor. He is flying around the field going after the ball or the ball carrier. He’s a ballhawk. Watson is always in the right spot to make a play because he’s always moving. I saw multiple plays where Watson is going sideline to sideline making plays everywhere.

 Leadership/Awareness

Tyler Watson is a leader on the team. During the pre-play alignments, Watson is always talking to his teammates to help with alignment. It’s pretty interesting to see how often he also puts himself in a spot to make the interception or play. So I suppose it’s a bit of a mix of intelligence, pre-play awareness, and leadership that Watson displays. This also raises the play of his teammates.

Range

I also noticed that Watson has excellent range due to his speed, quickness, and efficiency in his movement. He is able to anticipate where the ball is going and has a powerful burst to finish off the play. I mentioned it before when talking about him playing sideline to sideline, but he’s everywhere on the field. Coaches can put him anywhere on the field and he’s going to end up in the right spot.

Tyler Watson Draft Stock

Watson is another small school athlete that we’re highlighting here. He’s going to be under the radar, but our ear is always to the ground. I know that some teams have been talking to him, but he’s still a day 3-UDFA pick. But your team might be one of the ones who’s talking to him, so pay attention.

Tyler Watson NFL Comparison

Harrison Smith. The versatility, the tackling skill, he reminds me of one of the best in the game, Vikings safety Harrison Smith.
