Update: Milton Williams Eagles. Milton Williams was taken by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round.

There’s a lot of talk about this being a weak defensive tackle class, maybe it’s just weak scouting. There’s a guy flying way under the radar who combines physical freakishness with extremely strong play. I guess the knock on him is once again the school he went to, but Louisiana Tech’s Milton Williams is truly going to shock some people.

Strengths

Can I just say everything? No, OK fine. It’s usually a good idea to be a good athlete if you’re going to play professional sports. Williams tested off the charts everywhere. I’m just going to list off his freakish numbers: 39” vertical, 99th percentile for DTs, broad jump 131, 97th percentile for DTs, 34 reps on the bench 92nd percentile for DTs, 4.62 second 40, 99th percentile for DTs, 4.25 second short shuttle, 97th percentile for DTs, 6.87 seconds for the 3 cone drill, 100th percentile for DTs. Just look at those numbers, absolutely amazing, there is nothing he doesn’t excel at athletically.

So he’s an athlete, there are plenty of athletes who can’t play football. Milton Williams is not one of those athletes. Let’s get deep into some numbers. An overall PFF grade of 90.8 this past season. 89.7 pass rush grade and a 91.2 true pass set rush grade with a 20.9 percent pass rush win rate. Damn. He also put up a 88.4 rush defense grade with an 8.7 percent run stop rate. How does he do it you ask?

Williams is made out of muscle, he’s lean, but that’s only because there’s no fat on him. His numbers and his tape show you that he combines strength with speed, quickness and agility. He developed some nice pass rushing moves and he combines them with incredible hands. His hands *chef kiss* he just smacks offensive lineman around and it’s beautiful to watch. I think he’s got the best hands of any lineman in the draft. Really, he puts everything together to create a work of art in the trenches.

Weaknesses

His weight I guess. He weighed in at 284 lbs. at his pro day, which is a little light for a defensive tackle. However, I mentioned that he’s a little light because he’s jacked to the gills. Also, his bench shows that strength is not an issue for him. The only thing that could be better is his arm length. They’re only 31.5 inches long which puts him in the 5th percentile for DTs, but he uses his hands so damn well that it doesn’t seem to affect him at all.

Projection

I’ve fallen in love with Milton Williams, he’s my number two overall defensive tackle and maybe he should be number one. His draft position is all over the place, but he could go day two, though maybe three is more likely. His talent makes him a day one player, I’d take him in the first round. People are going to look back and wonder how they missed on Williams, it’s because they don’t read DraftDive.
