Logan Hall NFL Draft Player Profile

Coming out of high school Hall was rated as a three star recruit by 247Sports. They also had him ranked as the 109th over defensive end in the country. His senior season saw him finish with 54 tackles (38 solo) and 10 tackles for loss. Logan would earn All-District honors in 2016. At the end of his high school career, he had 106 tackles with 14 tackles for loss and five sacks.

Once he arrived at Houston, he immediately saw playing time. As a freshman, Hall would play in all 13 of the Cougars’ games. He earned his first start of his career in their bowl game that season. He finished 2018 with 14 tackles (nine solo) and a forced fumble. During Logan’s sophomore season, he once again saw action in all of Houston’s games. This time he made three starts total. The year saw him rack up another 14 tackles (eight solo) and 0.5 sacks. During his covid-shorten junior season, Hall would start seven of the Cougar’s eight games. He saw an increase in production, finishing with 23 tackles (nine solo), a sack, and one pass breakup.

His growth as continued into his senior season as well. Through 13 games, Logan has racked up 47 tackles (24 solo) and six sacks. This has helped Houston to an 11-2 record, a place in the AAC Championship game and a #20 national ranking.

Logan Hall Strengths

Versatility

If you watch tape on Hall, you see he literally plays every spot along the defensive line. Left end, left tackle, nose tackle, right tackle, right end… literally every position. Not only does he play all the positions, but Hall is actually serviceable at each spot as well. Although, I will say that I think his skill set makes him more serviceable as a defensive tackle. However, that’s something I’ll touch on a little bit later on, so make sure to keep reading.

High Motor

Houston Defensive End Logan Hall

Logan isn’t going to be the fastest or most explosive player you watch. One thing he’ll give you though is effort. The man simply doesn’t stop moving. From the time the ball is snapped until the final whistle, Hall is chasing the ball carrier. There were plenty of tackles that most defensive lineman aren’t finishing, that his effort allowed him to be a part of. He plays sideline to sideline or 15 yards downfield… it doesn’t matter; he’s coming.

Play Strength

Another impressive aspect of Hall’s game is his play strength. Over and over I saw him collapse the pocket. Pushing the center or guard right into the quarterback’s face. This is the reason that I see him more as a defensive tackle, rather than an end. Logan’s bull rush is probably his best, most effective pass rush move.

Logan Hall Weaknesses

Not Explosive

This is probably the biggest reason I can’t see him as a defensive end in the NFL. Sure, he’s strong enough and he plays hard, but he doesn’t explode off the ball at the snap. I just don’t see him being enough of a force on the edge to truly worry an offensive tackle. Logan is better off inside, where he can use his power to collapse the pocket up the middle.

Pass Rush Moves

Hall actually shows multiple rush moves on tape. Along with a bull rush, he also has a spin move and swim move that he’ll use. However, his spin move and swim move aren’t nearly has effective as his bull rush. Factor that in with everything else and hopefully you see why I don’t think end is in his future at the NFL level.

Logan Hall Draft Stock

I was a little surprised when I checked out NFL Mock Draft Database. There were a number of mock drafts that had Hall going in the late first round. Because of this his overall ranking has jumped from 200th on October 21st to 79th currently. This gives him a 3rd round projection overall.

Final Thoughts Logan Hall

Houston Defensive End Logan Hall

Houston Defensive End Logan Hall

Hall is a player that has shown continuous growth over his time at Houston. I think that he can continue that trend in the NFL level and because a starter within his rookie contract. In another year, Logan might be a lock for a first round pick. For me I have a tough time seeing it in this draft class. You’ve got the likes of Hutchinson, Thibodeuax, and the rest of a stacked defensive class to deal with. I personally have him as a Day 2 guy, but you never know. Depending on how team’s draft boards fall though, anything is possible. Maybe, just maybe, Hall does find himself at the tail end of the first round.

Pro Comparison: Zach Sieler

Logan Hall’s NFL comparison is Zach Sieler. Sieler is a defensive tackle for the Miami Dolphins. After being drafted in the 7th round of the 2018 draft, Sieler has shown improvement every season to become a PFF top 10 interior defensive lineman. With an 81.3 overall grade, and an 81.1 grade versus the run, Zach ranks eighth out of 127 defensive tackles. This is the type of progression that I can see Hall having during his rookie contract.
