Kenyon Green NFL Draft Player Profile

Kenyon Green is a former five star recruit out of Atascocita High School in Humble, Texas. Green had a very successful career at Atascocita. According to 247sports, Green was ranked as the third best offensive tackle in the nation. The only two people he was ranked behind were Evan Neal out of Alabama and Darnell Wright out of Tennessee. Although he was ranked as the third best offensive tackle, he was the best player in Texas. Throughout the history of high school football, Texas is on a whole other level when it comes to producing NFL talent.

Although Kenyon Green was getting a lot of looks from power five schools, Texas A&M was the winner by a landslide. Green got a total of 23 offers, but only visited one school and that school was Texas A&M.

The second Green stepped foot on campus at Texas A&M, he was a starter. Not only was he a starter, he was also voted to be part of the 2019 SEC All-Freshman Team. Although Green was a tackle in high school, Green started his career at guard and stayed there throughout his sophomore season. So far this year, he has moved around the offensive line. He started off the season playing right tackle and recently made the transition to left tackle against Alabama. He has played both guard spots as well, making him very versatile.

Kenyon Green Strengths

Power

Green is my favorite guard in this draft class for many reasons. The main reason I’m so high on him, is because of his power and raw strength. Regardless of where he plays on the offensive line, he will do well because his strength is above the competition. He will be able to handle NFL caliber bull rushers. Although he has played basically every position along the line for the Aggies, I am the most impressed by him at guard. Not only because he has the size of a guard in the NFL, but also because he needs to be lined up opposite of defensive tackles.

Plays With Intensity

Green is one of the most intense offensive linemen I have ever seen. When watching his film, I couldn’t help but notice that he is not your average offensive lineman. Instead of simply blocking the defender, it looks like he is trying to hurt the defender. This is the intensity I love to see from an NFL caliber offensive lineman. As I noted earlier, he is a very powerful blocker and will do everything he can to lay out the defender. However, I don’t want you to think he is purposefully trying to hurt the defender. Instead, he is simply trying to get the defender out of the play and move on to the next. He does this while making sure they remember they don’t want to play against him again.

Tenacious Blocker

As I noted when I talked about his intensity and power, Green is a very tenacious blocker. When he has his eyes locked on you, you better hope you can get around him. If not, he will run right through you. When Green steps onto the field, he knows what his assignment is. His assignment is to put his body on the line to help the offense drive down the field and score a touchdown. I have been watching Green since his freshman year and I have yet to see him not give 100%.

Versatility

As far as offensive linemen go, Green is one of the most versatile players I have seen. As noted in his player profile, he has played a lot of positions on that Aggies’ offensive line. That is why he is my second favorite offensive lineman in the 2022 NFL Draft behind Tyler Linderbaum. Although he isn’t graded as the best offensive lineman in this class, he may be the first offensive lineman taken. Yes, I know he isn’t a tackle.

I think that he will be a good fit regardless of the team that drafts him. In my personal opinion, I think he would be a good fit for the Eagles. He would be a powerful blocker for Jalen Hurts, and guard is their biggest need at the moment. The Eagles’ run heavy offense would be perfect for Green, as he has played for Texas A&M and they have a run heavy offense as well. Kenyon Green’s versatility should not be overlooked. He will easily be a day one starter in the NFL, but offers so much more than most of the other lineman.

Kenyon Green Weaknesses

Top Heavy

As we see with a lot of offensive linemen, they have a very low center of gravity. That is not necessarily the case with Green. When watching his film, I realized that his technique was a little different than a lot of offensive linemen. I think this is the case because his lower body is not as proportionate as it is for many other prospects. I don’t want you to think I am saying his torso is too big, it is just the fact that his lower body is not as strong as it should be. An off-season regiment of squats should be in order.

Agility

The biggest reason why Kenyon Green isn’t my number one offensive line prospect in this years NFL Draft is because of his agility. Green has a tendency to struggle against quicker and more nimble pass rushers. This is not what you want to see, especially if you are thinking of him as an offensive tackle. He should stay at guard in the NFL because of his lack of agility and length. Playing guard will be better for him in the long run, because he will be able to play to his strengths.

Kenyon Green Draft Stock

Predicting where Green will fall in the draft can be very difficult. In my opinion, Kenyon Green is an easy top 10 pick in this draft regardless of the teams in that top 10. With that being said, I can see teams passing on him in the top ten if they don’t think they need offensive line help. If the draft were starting tomorrow, I would comfortably draft him in the top ten. I would even consider taking him in the top 5 if my offensive line was in desperate need for help.

Final Thoughts on Kenyon Green

Overall, I think that Kenyon Green has a very bright future in the NFL regardless of the position that he plays. Green should stay at guard and focus on his lateral movement before he makes the transition to tackle. Green would work best as a starting left guard for a run heavy offense like the Eagles as I noted earlier. When it comes to Green’s draft stock, I can say with confidence that he should get drafted in the top 15.

Kenyon Green Player Comparison: When watching his film at all positions, he reminded me of a player that I am very familiar with. That player is Jackson Carman, rookie guard for the Cincinnati Bengals. Their size and frame are very similar and that is what immediately made me think of the comparison. After watching some more film, it was confirmed. They are both very powerful and versatile. They may be similar, but I think Green has a better future as an NFL guard than Carman.
