Jashaun Corbin NFL Draft Player Profile

High School

Corbin was a consensus four-star recruit out of Rockledge High School. When you see some of the numbers he put up during his time at Rockledge, it’s easy to see why. Corbin had 495 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns as a freshman. During his sophomore season, he rushed for almost 2,000 yards and scored 22 touchdown. He added another 18 scores with 1,641 all-purpose yards during his junior season. Finally, he led the Raiders to the regional semifinals as a senior. That season he had 2,252 all-purpose yards, with 23 touchdowns.

Corbin originally had an amazing 29 offers. Including schools like Texas A&M, Oregon, Florida State, Michigan State, and Tennessee. Corbin originally committed to Tennessee. Not even a month later, he decided to decommit. Shortly afterwards he ended up committing to Florida State. However, once Jimbo Fisher decided to leave FSU, Jashaun decommitted and follow Fisher to Texas A&M.

Texas A&M

Corbin would see immediate action for the Aggies. During his freshman season, he would rush for 346 yards on 61 carries. He also chipped in 85 yards on 10 catches. Jashaun’s biggest contribution was on special teams, where he returned 14 kicks for 422 yards, including one for a hundred yard touchdown. However, he saw a reduction in playing time during his sophomore season. Corbin only got 35 carries for 137 yards and a touchdown. He also only had 16 yards receiving on six catches, and just one kickoff return. After the 2019 season, Corbin decided to enter the transfer portal and enrolled at Florida State.

Florida State

During his first season with the Seminoles, Corbin was part of a four-headed rushing attack that included three running backs and quarterback Jordan Travis. Jashaun would see the most work of the running backs, with 81 carries for 401 yards and five scores over nine games in 2020. He also had another score and 115 yards receiving.

This season saw the same attack plan at the beginning of the season. However, as the season moved forward, Corbin became more of the featured back. He would lead the team in rushing attempts (143), yards (887), and touchdowns (7). Jashaun had an impressive 6.2 yards per carry average, even though he was held to 33 or less yards in four games on the year.

Jashaun Corbin Strengths

Versatile

When you look at Corbin’s career, NFL teams will see someone that can help out in many ways. Naturally, he’s going to be able to running the ball. This also includes taking the snap directly in a ‘Wildcat’ style offense. He’s also serviceable in the passing game as well. Not only can he catch the ball out of the backfield, but he has lined up in the slot as well as outside. Additionally, Jashaun is a pretty good route runner too! Then there’s the fact that he could help in the kick return game as well. One way or another, Corbin is going to be able to find a way to help whatever team drafts him his rookie season.

Hard to Bring Down

The first thing that popped out to me when watching film on Corbin was how hard he was to bring down. It wasn’t very often that the first person to him was able to make the tackle. In fact, on rushes I tracked during film study, Corbin averaged 0.3 broken tackles per touch. To put that into perspective, NFL rushing leader Jonathan Taylor has averaged 0.08 broken tackles per touch this season. Also, according to my tracking, 62% of Jashaun’s rushing yards came after first contact. When defenses were finally able to get him down, it typically took multiple defenders.

Competitive

When I talk about competitive, I’m not just meaning wanting to win. The competitive that I’m talking about is his drive. He’s always fighting. I think it’s part of the reason he’s so hard to bring down. Corbin is always driving forward. Even when he’s getting wrapped up by a defender, he finds a way to fall forward to help pick up that extra yard or two. It comes across in his running style. He’s not going to hit you with all these jukes or shoulder fakes. He just simply gets vertical as soon as he can.

Jashaun Corbin Weaknesses

Umm…Shiftiness?

I really don’t know what to say here. At first I was worried that he wasn’t a three-down back. At the beginning of the season, in passing situations, he was always off the field. But by the end of the year he was on the field more than any of the other running backs. Then I was worried that he wasn’t serviceable as a pass catcher. At first, seemed like he was mainly in for blocking. Then he’s suddenly split out in the slot or out by the numbers and that fear was gone. I mean, if I had to say anything it would be that he’s not going to make people straight up miss tackles. Corbin isn’t the shiftiest in the open field. However, he clearly makes up for it by being able to break through tackles.

Jashaun Corbin Draft Stock

There hasn’t been much heat generated by Corbin in regards to the draft. When I attempted to look him up on NFL Mock Draft Database, there wasn’t any information on him. I think this has a little to do with the fact that he still had two more years of eligibility left. So I’m not sure if many people were expecting him to declare this season or not.

Final Thoughts on Jashaun Corbin Scouting Report

I like Corbin’s skill set a lot. He’s a hard, downhill runner. He’s got good speed with great strength and balance. I think that he compares really well to the top running backs in the 2022 NFL Draft class. Although I think that he’ll end up going after names like Breece Hall or Isaiah Spiller, I don’t think it’ll be too far afterwards. I think he should hear his name by the end of Day 2. If he falls into Day 3, he’s a steal in my opinion.
